On Sint Eustatius a new endemic vertebrate for the Dutch Caribbean was recently discovered: the Leeward Blindsnake, Antillotyphlops geotomus, a small snake with the appearance of a rainworm. The species was known only to occur on four British islands in the Lesser Antilles: Antigua, Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis. Together with the Red-bellied Racer (Alsophis rufiventris) it is the second native snake for Sint Eustatius.
